Ms McMillan was most recently the Principal of Cavendish Road State High School. She was appointed in July 2014. Ms McMillan has held various positions in her career in education commencing as a Health and Physical Education Teacher at Boonah and Ipswich State High Schools (1995-1997); In 2000 she became Head of Department at Beaudesert State High School and later fulfilled the role of Deputy Principal from 2004-2006; Ms McMillan became a Principal in 2006 at Stretton State College; She continued her career as Principal at Wellington Point State High School (2009); Springwood Road State School and Bremer State High School in 2010; and Glenala State High School (2011-2014). Ms McMillan has also performed a number of non-teaching roles in the Department of Education including Acting Regional Director, Metropolitan Region supervising 430 Schools and a Principal Advisor of Education Services – Metropolitan Region (2010); Senior Education Officer, Teaching and Learning Branch – Brisbane (1998-1999); and Education Advisor – Curriculum at Ipswich and West Moreton Districts. Ms McMillan has been awarded many outstanding achievements whilst in the position of Principal. Ms McMillan graduated from the University of Newcastle in 1994 with a Bachelor of Education and undertook further studies at the University of Queensland, and in 2012 Ms McMillan completed her Master of Educational Studies at The University of Queensland in Leadership, Public Education and Political Science. In 2022, Ms McMillan was confirmed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) – University of South Australia. In 2016 Ms McMillan was one of three Australian Principals to be awarded an Australian Public Education Foundation Scholarship to study at Harvard University, Boston, USA. In 2017 Ms McMillan travelled to Finland, Estonia, Paris and Singapore to investigate how public education systems of government develop and prepare leaders for contexts of increased autonomy, decision making, accountability and how these governments manage the challenges of continued vertical fiscal imbalances. The study of autonomous local innovation in schools, the leadership skills, abilities and behaviours of the school leaders in these systems is timely in the Australian context to ensure that Queensland and Australia is competitive in a globalised world.
